Home renovations in New Farm
New Farm's grand Queenslanders were built to impress, and a renovation here has to keep that promise while making the house liveable.
What we do
Renovations, run by the builder.
Renovation carpentry is the middle of our trade at Bernard Building. Structural work first: new beams and openings, walls out, verandahs and decks tied into the house properly. Then the finishing carpentry that makes the new work read as part of the original home. We are owner led. Ben quotes every renovation himself, works on the tools with the crew, and is the same bloke you call when something needs deciding.
The big Queenslanders around New Farm Park have high ceilings, formal rooms and verandahs that were the point of the house. Renovating one means connecting those formal rooms into how people actually live, without stripping the detail that makes them grand. Our structural carpentry opens the plan; our finishing carpentry makes the joins invisible, with mouldings, boards and casings matched to the originals. The art deco flats nearby are a different trade; the houses are ours.

Janelle O.“Ben from Bernard Building and his fab team did some great building works for us this week. They were efficient, tidy, easy to communicate with and their completed work was of a very high standard. We would recommend Bernard Building for any renovation works small or large. Thanks Ben and all your Team. Appreciate your professionalism.”

Straight answers
Before you call.
Before we start, you get a written scope that says what is being done and in what order. Renovations run in stages, so we plan around the ones that make dust and noise, keep the site tidy at the end of each day, and keep you across anything we find once the walls are open. One point of contact, no surprises.
Do you do structural work?
Yes. Structural carpentry is the core of our renovation work: beams, load-bearing wall removals, new openings, subfloor and framing repairs. We are QBCC licensed (15357497) and we work to the engineering, not around it. Where an engineer or certifier is needed, we coordinate that as part of the job.
Can we live in the house during the renovation?
Usually, yes. Most of our renovations are staged so the household keeps a working kitchen and bathroom for as long as possible. We are upfront about the noisy, dusty stretches and we leave the site tidy and safe at the end of every day. If a stage would make the house unliveable, we tell you before it starts.
Which areas do you renovate in?
We work across 36 Brisbane suburbs, from the inner north-west out to the east and south sides. The Gap, Ashgrove, Bardon and Kedron are our home turf, but Ben quotes renovations anywhere on our list. If you are nearby and not sure, call and ask.
