“Thanks to Ben and his team for their work replacing some stairs, batten work under the house and replacing a few stumps. The quality of work was outstanding. More than anything, I am really appreciative of the communication from Ben and his team from when the job was first quoted, during the job and at completion. Would definitely recommend these guys for any building work you might have.”

Carpentry repairs in Brisbane
From a sticking door to a sagging deck: repairs done properly by a carpenter, not patched over.
Small carpentry problems don't stay small in Brisbane. Sun, storms and humidity work on timber all year, and a soft spot in a weatherboard or a spongy deck board is usually a message from somewhere deeper.
Bernard Building treats repairs as real carpentry, not an errand. The same crew that builds decks, external stairs and renovations assesses every fix against the structure it sits in, so the problem gets repaired once, properly.
Repairs we handle every week
- Rotten or storm-damaged weatherboards and fascia
- Deck repairs: boards, handrails and structural members
- External stair repairs: treads, stringers and balustrades
- Sticking doors, dropped gates and window frames
- Architraves, skirting and internal trim
- Storm-damage repairs and make-safe carpentry
Fix it now, or fix it twice
Timber problems compound. A weatherboard that stays soft through one wet season is a wall cavity problem the next; a spongy tread becomes a broken one. An honest assessment early is the cheapest carpentry you'll ever buy, and if the fix really is minor, you'll be told exactly that.
When a repair becomes a rebuild
Sometimes the honest answer is that a deck or staircase is past saving. Because Bernard Building builds new decks, external stairs and renovations as well as repairing them, you get one straight recommendation: repair what's sound, replace what isn't, with numbers for both.
How a repair runs
- Send photos. A couple of phone photos with your enquiry tells Ben most of what he needs to know.
- Straight assessment. What's cosmetic, what's structural, and what it'll take to fix properly.
- Repair, properly. Matched timber and profiles, fixed once, with the cause addressed, not just the symptom.

Common questions
Asked before most repairs.
Is any job too small?
No, repairs are a core service, not a favour. A sticking door, one rotten board, a wobbly handrail: if it's timber, it's worth doing properly.
How do I know if it's rot or termites?
Soft, crumbling timber can be either, and they often travel together. Ben can usually tell on inspection, and if what he's seeing points to termite activity, he'll tell you straight that a licensed pest inspection comes first.
Can you match the existing timber and profiles?
Usually, yes, matching weatherboard profiles, architraves and trim on older Brisbane homes is standard work. Where an exact profile is no longer milled, you'll see the closest option before anything goes ahead.
What if the damage is worse than it looks?
You hear about it before anything is opened up further, with photos, a plain-English explanation and a revised price to approve. No surprises on the invoice.
