“Ben and the Bernard Building team did an awesome job renovating our place! We couldn’t be happier with the finished product and all their work throughout the project. Would definitely go to Ben again and highly recommend!”

Home renovations in Brisbane
Carpenter-led renovations that respect the bones of your home, from a single tired room to a full transformation.
Brisbane houses have character worth keeping. Queenslanders with wide verandahs, post-war timber homes, workers' cottages on stumps; the right renovation works with what's there instead of erasing it. That's carpenter's territory, and it's where Bernard Building does its best work.
Ben brings 12 years in construction to every renovation, and Bernard Building handles the full arc of a project: planning, structural carpentry, decks and stairs, through to the final architrave, with one crew accountable for the lot.
Renovating a Queenslander? Know what you're standing on
Timber homes move, breathe and hide their history. Renovating one well means understanding stumps and bearers, VJ walls, casement windows and roof lines before the first wall comes out. Ben's carpentry background means the structural realities get assessed early, not discovered mid-build.
It also means the details that give these homes their value: timber floors, high ceilings, breezeways, get protected and repeated, not boxed in.
What a Bernard Building renovation covers
- Structural carpentry: walls, openings, beams and framing
- Decks, verandahs and external stairs tied into the build
- Kitchens, bathrooms and living areas, coordinated with trusted trades
- Repairs and making-good that bigger builders won't touch
- Permits, approvals and certifier coordination, organised for you
Stay in, or move out?
Plenty of Brisbane renovations can be staged so you keep living at home; it comes down to scope, services and safety. Ben gives you a straight answer on what the job means for day-to-day living before you commit, not after the floor's up.
How a renovation runs
- Walk-through. Ben visits, listens to what you want and looks at what the house will allow.
- Scope and quote. A clear written scope: what's included, what's excluded, what it costs.
- Approvals. Permits and certifier requirements organised before work starts.
- The build. One accountable crew, a tidy site and straight communication throughout.
- Handover. Final details checked together; the job's done when you're happy it's done.

Common questions
Asked before most renovations.
Do you renovate Queenslanders and character homes?
Yes, timber character homes are Bernard Building's home ground. Twelve years in construction means the quirks of Queenslanders (stumps, VJ walls, sash and casement windows, verandah structures) are familiar territory, not surprises.
Do I need council approval for my renovation?
It depends on scope: structural changes, extensions and work that alters the footprint usually need building approval through a private certifier. Ben organises the permits and approvals as part of the job.
Can I live in the house during the renovation?
Often, yes, many renovations can be staged room by room. It depends on the scope and which services get interrupted, and you'll know what to expect before work starts.
How is Bernard Building different from a big renovation company?
You deal directly with the carpenter who builds it. One crew, straight answers, and workmanship that's ours to stand behind, backed by 12 years in construction.
